TLC Meeting 29th April 2015 – Julie Fadden, CEO South Liverpool Housing
TLC Meeting 29th April 2015 – Julie Fadden, CEO South Liverpool Housing (SLH)
A select and highly knowledgable group of members attended an excellent presentation by Julie Fadden. Now that TLC is in its 7th year – and I have been privileged to attend everyone – perhaps one came to the event with a sense of “not sure that this will be very interesting”. And if that was an initial thought then how wrong could I be.
What Julie and her extraordinarily committed team have done in an area of great social depravation is truly amazing. SLH is a non-profit making organisation but clearly needs to bring proper commercial practices in order to grow and provide a highly valued and vital service. But in the end it comes down to vision and leadership and Julie has bags of that. Things which might pass other TLC members by, such as the Bedroom Tax and Universal Credit, were brought into sharp focus and the challenges Government policies pose in areas such as South Liverpool were stark indeed. But Julie informed us how through strong and committed leadership SLH makes a huge difference in the locality to peoples lives and aspirations. Amongst TLC members in attendance were Professor Michael Brown and Frances Street both who have board level knowledge with other housing associations which made the Q&A particularly informative.
Julie has kindly provided a copy of the slides from the presentation which gives a real feeling as to how she and SLH go about their business.
