I was introduced to Lucy by an old friend and TLC member, Julian Childs. Julian suggested that I got in touch as he was sure that Lucy was leading on something that would chime with me – and the membership. He was right.

Lucy was focusing on the huge fact that as our population continues to age and pension provision is drastically under resourced, there is increased anxiety about encouraging the ‘older worker’ to remain engaged at work. (The UK Government defines ‘older workers’ as people over 50).  Lucy will acknowledging the size and scale of the problem but instead, age will be positioned as the greatest opportunity organisations have available to them. 

You will learn about what changes as we get older in terms of our psychology, values, traits and skills.  And additionally you will be inspired to consider what actions we can take as leaders within our organisations.  

Bio: 

Lucy Standing is founder of Brave Starts – a non profit which supports people as they get older to remain engaged in the workforce.  She has given evidence in parliament for the older worker select committee.  Baroness Ros Altmann is on the advisory board and has used Brave Starts research to lead debates in the House of Lords. 

Brave Starts jointly won the International Longevity Centre award for Innovation last year (a global competition of more than 80 entrants). 

Lucy is a Chartered Psychologist and prior to founding Brave Starts was Vice Chair of the Association for Business Psychology.  In her corporate life she was a Global Head of Recruitment in the Strategy consulting and investment banking sectors.
