How space is revolutionising our lives – you just don’t know it yet
Lewis Feilder
Director, Defence Air & Space Leader
As the Internet revolutionised our lives in the mid-90s, followed rapidly by mobile phones, space is poised to once again change how we live our lives, what’s possible and how we see the world around us.
It wasn’t that long ago that NASA owned western access to space – now it is Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos. Thousands of satellites now orbit us daily and soon our mobiles will connect directly to satellites. Contactless card transactions and traffic lights rely on timing systems in space, as does the GPS used by your Uber driver.
The US is adding space to its list of critical national infrastructure, Russia plans to put a nuclear weapon on orbit and China will begin permanent settlement of the moon in 2028.
Space is revolutionising our lives – we just don’t know it yet.
