How to Develop a healthy AI Diet
(Will Fast Intelligence be worse for us all than Fast Food or Fast Fashion?)
Few people argue that a fast food diet is a healthy life choice or that dressing in disposable fast fashion is an environmentally sensible option.
Yet both fast food and fast fashion are widely popular. Who hasn’t had a cheeky fried chicken or purchased a cheap t-shirt with a catchy slogan? We make decisions based on immediate needs and decisions as much as rationally thinking about all the broader implications and complications. Humans are lazy and prefer outcomes now rather than later.
So what happens when the availability of insight and intelligence is as common as fast food or fast fashion? The era of Fast Intelligence is now, where answers to complex questions are just a text prompt or voice query away. We can now search quicker, we receive information faster, and that insight is personally crafted to appear logical and believable. Fast intelligence will serve our immediate needs and answer our most challenging demands.
Like the other Fasts, though, Fast Intelligence creates severe challenges and risks. Is the answer true? Can we trust it? Do we understand how the answer was generated? Am I better off working out the answer myself rather than going for the quick option? Will we become a culture of t-shirt-wearing, take-away-eating individuals who consume half-true or unhealthy answers because it’s the easiest option?
Tony’s talk, linked to a longer piece on this issue, will address why we should be more sceptical about our fast-intelligence world and share three healthy options to ensure that your diet starts with good intent.
You will recall that Tony last spoke to us on 6th September 2023 when he tantilised us by stating that ‘AI Doesn’t Need Leadership’. Now he is challenging our dietary habits.
Tony has pioneered digital disruption across defence and government sectors for the last 25 years as a military officer, government advisor, and business leader.
He encourages faster adoption of new thinking while warning of the potential risks created by digital transformation and disruptive technologies.
He is a keen advocate for the need to change our mindsets, not our toolsets, to achieve critical advantages over adversaries and competitors, who increasingly realise their technological benefits at a quicker pace.
Tony has always been a geek and has served as a British Army Infantry Officer on operations in Bosnia, Kosovo, Sierra Leone, and Northern Ireland. In a critical national role, he supported the military adoption of new technologies and ways of working in Afghanistan, Iraq, and across Africa.
Tony shaped future UK battlefield C4ISR solutions aligning future technological options with commercial approaches across sectors, before joining Microsoft to develop ethical technologies, including AI and mixed realities.
He is now Deloitte UK Partner for Digital Defence, leading on AI adoption with UK MOD, exploiting big data, and digitising delivery operations.
